Sanford And Son (Season 3) DVD Review

Nominated for six Golden Globes and seven Emmys, including Outstanding Series - Comedy, Sanford & Son became one of the first shows in television history to be almost entirely centered around African-American characters. Modeled after the British TV show Steptoe & Son, the series showcased the underappreciated talents of comic genius Redd Foxx (whose skin color and bad language prevented him from becoming a superstar decades earlier). The brainchild of All In The Family creator Norman Lear, Sanford & Son signaled the beginning of a decade of sitcom classics for the prolific 1970’s TV writer - Maude (1972), Good Times (1974), and The Jeffersons (1975) being the others. Wrought with memorable one-liners and well-timed humor, Sanford & Son was a Top 10 Nielsen rated show every year in which it aired except for its final season (ranking a respectable #27)…

Sanford & Son, set in the Watts district of Los Angeles, follows the life of Fred Sanford (Redd Foxx), a 65-year-old African-American junk dealer who shares his business with his 34-year-old son Lamont (Demond Wilson). With Fred’s wife Elizabeth having passed away twenty years earlier, he often evokes Lamont’s sympathy by clutching his heart and proclaiming, “Oh, I’m coming to join you Elizabeth!” But Fred always survives those near fatal heart attacks, continuing to disperse sarcastic putdowns (often directed at his sister-in-law Esther) and racist stereotypical remarks aimed against whites and Hispanics (especially Lamont’s friend Julio). Using guilt to manipulate his ambitious son into staying and helping run the salvage shop instead of pursuing other endeavors, Fred Sanford spends most of his days lounging around the house (his junk store and home are one and the same) and hanging out with his friends - Grady, Melvin, and Bubba… Well-written and hilarious, Sanford & Son is comedian Redd Foxx at his absolute best…

The Sanford & Son (Season 3) DVD features a number of hilarious episodes including the season premiere “Lamont as Othello” in which Fred walks in on Lamont and his drama teacher acting out a choking scene from Shakespeare’s Othello. Fred wrongly believes that Lamont is trying to kill a white woman, but the tables are turned when Fred and Lamont visit the teacher’s house and her parents wrongly assume the Sanfords are trying to rob the place… Other notable episodes from Season 3 include “Lamont is That You?” in which Lamont and Rollo accidentally walk into a gay bar (but not until they’re seen by Fred’s friend Bubba, leading Fred to believe Lamont is gay), and “Fred’s Cheating Heart” in which one of Fred’s typical fake heart attacks lands him the hospital for observation…

Gambling Superstitions

Many times while gambling, I’ve found myself searching for subtle signs to assist me in making my next bet. For
example, if I’m playing roulette and a person in a red blouse stands next to me, then I’ll place an outside bet on
red. If I’m experiencing very good luck at Blackjack and a less friendly dealer takes over the table, then I’ll take it
as a sign to move onto another table because my luck is about to change. Superstition and myth have always
played a small part in the gambling area.

From the common practice of blowing on a set of dice before rolling
them, to the not so common practice of carrying a toenail from a horned toad, many gamblers believe that they
can actually give their game play an edge by following irrational beliefs that have long been associated with
gambling. While most gamblers have adopted their own set of superstitious beliefs and practices, there still
remains a common set of beliefs that many gamblers have at one time or another adopted.

Some of the superstitions which are believed to bring good luck include:

- Carrying a four leaf clover.

- Carrying a rabbit’s foot.

- Carrying a horseshoe.

- Carrying a personal lucky charm.

- Wearing a lucky item of clothing.

- Blowing on the dice before rolling them.

- Being well dressed.

- Crossing one’s fingers.

- Stacking the gambling chips neatly.

- The color red.

Some of the superstitions which are believed to bring bad luck include:

- Breaking a mirror.

- A black cat crossing one’s path.

- Walking under a ladder.

- Dogs near a gambling table.

- The color black.

While most of us at one stage or another have given way to the occasional superstitious belief, when it comes to
the practice of gambling, it would seem to make more sense for a player to invest more time in the study and
practice of various playing strategies and less time in the practice of irrational superstitious beliefs which may or
may not work.

Choosing the Right Ballet Slippers

In ballet, as in most of life, the clothing options for women are more varied than for men. Take unitards, leotards and warm-up clothing as an example.

Now, when it comes to ballet shoes or slippers, the pattern still exists. But first, you may be asking, why wear ballet footwear when you can dance beautifully in your socks?

For this reason: you need support for your foot while allowing access to all your bones and muscles of your feet. The variety of shoes available is impressive and your options include:

1. Leather full-sole slippers

2. Canvas full-sole slippers

3. Canvas split-sole slippers

4. Split-sole dance sneakers in leather, canvas, or a combination of materials.

Split-sole shoes have no sole between the ball of the foot and the heel. The added flexibility in the middle of the shoe helps the arch effect of your foot to look higher, which allows for less effort to point fully. Why is that important? Because in ballet, your arch can never be too high.

Ballet slippers range in price from about $20 U.S. a pair to $35 a pair. How long they last depends on how often you wear them and your tolerance for the odor of your own feet. Some wear socks inside their ballet slippers which helps them stay clean and fresh a lot longer.

Getting the correct size ballet slippers

Ballet slippers should fit snugly and securely. At most, when you’re standing, someone should be able to stick one finger into your shoe at the heel. But ideally, there shouldn’t be enough room for a whole finger. However, your toes should be able to relax without feeling too cramped.

If you live in any good-sized city, you should be able to find at least one dance supply shop nearby. To find the right shoe, visit the local shop and try on several different styles, brands, and sizes of ballet slipper. Remember to bring the appropriate socks you plan to wear along with those shoes.

While you’re in your favorite dance supply store, trust your local shoe-fitting person but listen to your body as well. By trying on various widths and lengths, you can be assured that you have just the right shoe for your feet. If it feels good, buy it.

And nowadays with the online internet options we have, choosing and shopping for a great pair of ballet slippers is a breeze - even if you don’t live in a large city.

An Interview with “After the Sunset” Director Brett Ratner

One of the youngest recipients to ever receive the prestigious “Kodak Award” from ShowEast, director Brett Ratner knows the importance of staying in touch with a young audience. “The film business is the only industry that’s number one everywhere. American films cover 70 percent of the world, and American pop culture has been expanding to different cultures with cable television and the Internet,” he says. “Young people keep the theaters full and are very loyal to the movies. We need to help cultivate their talent and bring it to the screen.”

Raised in Miami Beach, Florida, Ratner dreamed of being a filmmaker since the age of eight. He enrolled in New York University’s Tisch School of Arts when he was sixteen, becoming the department’s youngest film major. While attending NYU Film School, he made “Whatever Happened to Mason Reese,” which earned awards and brought him to the attention of Steven Spielberg, whose Amblin Entertainment gave him a production grant.

Ratner also directed more than 100 music videos for such recording artists including Madonna, Mariah Carey, Mary J. Blige, P. Diddy, and many others. He won the Tony Award for producing “Russell Simmons’ Def Poetry Jam” on Broadway.

“I always believed I was going to be a director,” Ratner confided during a telephone interview when he was in Orlando, Florida, to accept the Kodak Award. “Visualizing and believing are the way to make things real.”

The director of “After the Sunset,” “The Family Man,” “Red Dragon,” and the “Rush Hour” series, Ratner has established himself as one of Hollywood’s most successful directors with films grossing nearly $1 billion worldwide. By the time he was 26-years-old, he already had directed his first feature film, the box-office hit, “Money Talks,” starring Charlie Sheen and Chris Tucker.

What makes the recent New Line Cinema heist film “After the Sunset” so entertaining is its combination of elements, he says. “First you have a great simple story, then you take the star, Pierce Brosnan who’s a modern-day, old-time movie star and put him with the most beautiful woman in the world (Salma Hayek) on a tropical island together. This is great escapism for every demographic – a heist movie that delivers on every level.”

He says that he was destined to make a heist movie someday. “’After the Sunset’ was my first time making a heist movie. It was the biggest budget ‘student film’ ever made. But I learned so much along the way, and the next time I make a heist movie, I’ll be ready.”

Although individual creative choices for “After the Sunset” were determined in the editing suite, Ratner knew all along what he wanted from the finished product. “It had to be past-faced, a good story told in an interesting way driven by characters, not by flash.”

In fact, Ratner emphasizes the storytelling aspect for all aspiring filmmakers making any kind of movie. “In film school, they talk about composition and lighting,” he says. “But the format doesn’t really matter that much. What matters is telling a simple story that touches people’s emotions. You need to make them laugh, make them cry, make them feel.”

Roulette System: How to Master Chaos - Theory to Beat Online Casino Legally

This article is going to discuss how Chaos Theory applies to Roulette.

“Looking at roulette chaos is like looking at a raging white-water river filled with wildly tossing waves and unpredictably swirling eddies. But suddenly, in one part of the river, you spot a familiar swirl of current, and for the next five or ten seconds you know the direction the water will move in that section of the river.”

Chaos is everywhere. If you think about it, you arrived at this site because a certain sequence of events took place at just the right time that led you here. Everything is deterministic. What you do next will depend on what you did before. The roulette wheel is not random. It is chaotic! Future spins are determined by past spins. Patterns therefore occur. Find them. Exploit them. Orderly disorder exists. Walk away from the Casino a consistent winner.

The FAST Roulette System is based on the simple fact that there exists predictable patterns within chaotic numbers that seem completely random. R. Lucassen has shown how long-enough sequences of chaotic numbers generate fractals, complex and self-describing patterns which are found everywhere in nature. But let me keep things simple and communicate through examples.

Even though the odds of an individual number coming out on European Roulette is 1 in 37, if you watch 37 spins of the wheel, several numbers will have repeated themselves and several numbers won’t have appeared at all. In fact, before all numbers have appeared at least once, at least one number will have appeared 8 times! Most amazing of all, it does not matter at what point you start tracking the numbers, or if it’s American or European roulette. This is a very bold statement and I insist that you to try it out at any Casino, online or real, before you continue reading as this is the premise of the FAST Roulette System.

Imagine all the events that take place at any given moment in time. They didn’t just happen. Several things had to happen before that led to that event occurring. And several things had to happen, before those several things, that caused them to occur, and so on. Every small event causes a series of chain reactions that produce several other events that, in turn, produce several other events. The wheel is spun at a certain velocity. A roulette ball is dropped at a specific point. The ball stops on a specific number. That, in turn, is the starting point for the next spin. And the pattern repeats itself. This series of events always favors one number in the short run. We have to find that favored number and exploit it. If the roulette wheel was truly random, then it would not be beatable with any device that didn’t affect its outcome. Yet it was.

If you know that a number will come out 8 times before all numbers have come out at least once, then, by keeping track of all previous numbers that will cause that event to occur, you can more accurately choose which numbers to bet on, thereby reducing the probability to below 1/35 of hitting that number. Since Roulette pays you 35 times the amount bet plus the original bet, this will give you an expected return that is positive in the short and long-term, thus allowing you to generate consistent profits.

But why does a number come out 8 times before all numbers have come out once? For the same reason that when it starts to drizzle it takes a while to wet the entire pavement. The drops are supposedly falling randomly, yet they tend to hit in the same spot rather than on dry ground. If you’ve ever observed it, it takes longer to wet the whole ground than you would expect. This is Chaos Theory in action. When applied to Roulette, you get similar results. Most of the times, a number will repeat itself 8 times (rain hitting the same spot) before all numbers have come out once (whole ground getting wet). There is a whole series of events within every spin that will determine, in part, each and every spin that is to follow.

If you observe about 125 spins of the Roulette wheel, you will realize that the distribution of the numbers is not what you would expect considering that the probability of a number coming up is 1/37. Since there is an equal chance of all numbers coming up, you would expect that after about 125 spins all the numbers would have come up about equally or, at the very least, that all numbers would have come up at least once. This is clearly not the case, however. This is not to say that the roulette wheels are necessarily skewed towards any one number. If you take a look at the histograms, you will notice that I won each day on a different number at the same table. Also, if you track the numbers long enough, after thousands of spins, computer-generated or real, all numbers will have come out about equally. Just not in the short run, and this is what the FAST Roulette System takes advantage of. But why not in the short-run? Simply because the more recent an event, the greater its impact on near-future events.

Poker Chips

If you watch poker tournaments on television or have visited casinos you’ll see that poker chips come in many different colors. It can sometimes be confusing because it’s hard to keep up with how much a particular chip may be worth. This is due to the fact that each casino has its poker chips specifically designed and manufactured. A casino will put its unique logo on a chip so it won’t be confused with one from another casino. The chips are also designed to be difficult to forge.

You won’t see any plastic poker chips at casinos, they all use clay chips. Actually these chips are no longer made of clay because the clay chips wear out too quickly. Instead they are made of composite ceramic, but the name has stuck. At most casinos the smallest denomination of poker chips $5.00 although some casinos will have $1.00 chips. Don’t get these chips confused with others such as those used at the roulette table, which often have no logo and come in smaller denominations.

If you’re in the market for poker chips you have a lot of different manufacturers to choose from. You can order clay chips to your specifications or you can order the less expensive plastic chips. The plastic chips are the ones most frequently used for neighborhood poker games. A standard set of plastic chips comes in three to five colors. A set of three includes white, red, and blue with the white chip being worth $1.00, the red $5.00, and the blue $10.00. If green and black chips are added their values are $20.00 and $100.00 respectively. So enjoy a good poker game soon.

Are All Slot Machines Made Equal?

If you have seen one slot machine, you have seen them all. But are they really all the same? The probability of hitting the right combination of numbers is low but you may have a better chance at some casinos than others. Even the chair that you choose to sit in may have something to do with your luck.

With the progressive slot machines such as Megabucks or Quartermania, the jackpot may be higher but so is the cost to play. Up to 15% of the money that you put into a progressive slot could be going straight to the jackpot. While this is great for the eventual jackpot winner, your odds of earning a return on your money are lower. If you like going for the long shot, then the progressive or “on line” slot machines may be for you. With the odds of winning being reported at 50 million to 1, you may want to look at the more traditional slot machines.

If you like earning a higher return on every coin that you drop into the slot, you may want to give the “equal distribution” or “straight multiplier” machines a spin. Although the payout is not as high as far as a jackpot is concerned, these machines are programmed to pay out at a higher percentage of the amount played.

Some slot players have theories about which machines are hot and which are not. Some believe that if you sit closest to the door of the casino, you are more likely to win because the casino wants to attract the attention of people walking by so that they too will come on in and play the slots for a while. One person jumping up and down because their slot machine just hit does tend to draw quite a bit of attention.

When entering a casino for the first time, look to see if you can find any “certified” slot machines. Some casinos will have information posted about a slot machines certified payout percentage. Make certain that the percentage is talking about a certain slot and not the casinos slots in general. All in all, sitting at the slots and trying to tame the one armed bandit can be an entertaining way to pass the day. I would not expect to walk out with millions but I would be willing to drop a coin and take a chance.

Beginner Piano Tunes: Music and Lyrics of Auld Lang Syne and How to Play It on the Piano with Ease!

Try out this free printable beginner piano lesson for learning to play the old favorite song, Auld Lang Syne, for New Year’s Eve! This article includes both the lyrics and music.

You will find it surprisingly easy to learn how to play Auld Lang Syne! It is one of a special selection of tunes that can be played on a five-note piano scale called the Pentatonic Scale.

‘Auld Lang Syne’, meaning ‘Times Gone By’ or ‘Days Gone By’, is a traditional song sung on New Year’s Eve in many countries. The words were written by the famous Scottish poet, Robert Burns.

Lyrics of Auld Lang Syne

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
and never brought to mind?
Should auld acquaintance be forgot
and days of auld lang syne?
For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we’ll tak a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

And here’s a hand, my trusty friend
And gie’s a hand o’ thine
We’ll tak a right gude-willie waught,
For auld lang syne.
For auld lang syne, my dear,
for auld lang syne,
we’ll tak a cup of kindness yet,
for auld lang syne.

Melody of Auld Lang Syne

Did you know that the tune of Auld Lang Syne can be played on just the five different black notes of your piano or keyboard? The black notes on your piano keyboard are arranged in two different groups: sets of two black notes and sets of three black notes.

From left to right, the names of these notes are:

– In each set of two black notes: C# and D#

– In each set of three black notes: F#, G# and A#.

To play Auld Lang Syne, begin on the C# black note that is just to the right of Middle C.

Here is how the melody goes:

Should auld acquaintance be forgot,
C# F# F# F# A# G# F# G#

and never brought to mind?
A# G# F# F# A# C# D#

Should auld acquaintance be forgot
D# C# A# A# F# G# F# G#

and days of auld lang syne?
A# G# F# D# D# C# F#

For auld lang syne, my dear,
D# C# A# A# F# G# F# G#

for auld lang syne,
D# C# A# A# C# D#

we’ll tak a cup of kindness yet,
D# C# A# A# F# G# F# G#

for auld lang syne.
A# G# F# D# D# C# F#

This rather haunting melody is special because it is written on the five note pentatonic scale. Another pentatonic scale tune that can be played in a similar way, on the black notes of a piano keyboard, is ‘Swing Low Sweet Chariot’.

Learning how to play the piano can be fun and easy! Impress your friends with this Music With Ease method of playing Auld Lang Syne on the pentatonic scale, this New Year’s Eve!

Acting

WHAT IS ACTING?

ACTING is the work of an actor or Actress, a person in theatre, film, or any other storytelling medium who tells the story by portraying a character and, usually, speaking or singing the written text or play. From the Latin word ag?re meaning “to do”, this is precisely what acting is. In acting, an actor suppresses or augments aspects of their personality in order to reveal the actions and motivations of the character for particular moments in time. The actor is said to be “assuming the role” of another, usually for the benefit of an audience, but also because it can bring one a sense of artistic satisfaction. Actors are generally expected to possess a number of skills, including good vocal projection, clarity of speech, physical expressiveness, a good sense of perspective, emotional availability, a well developed imagination, the ability to analyze and understand dramatic text, and the ability to emulate or generate emotional and physical conditions. Well-rounded actors are often also skilled in singing, dancing, emotional expressiveness, imitating dialects and accents, improvisation, observation and emulation, mime, stage combat, and performing classical texts such as Shakespeare. Many actors train at length in special programs or colleges to develop these skills, which have a wide range of different artistic philosophies and processes. Modern pioneers in the area of acting have included, Konstantin Stanislavski, Lee Strasberg, Stella Adler, Michael Chekhov, and Sanford Meisner.

WHAT IS AN ACTOR?

An actor is a person who acts, or plays a role, in a dramatic production. The term commonly refers to someone working in movies, television, live theatre, or radio, and can occasionally denote a street entertainer. Besides playing dramatic roles, actors may also sing or dance or work only on radio or as a voice artist. An actor usually plays a fictional character. In the case of a true story (or a fictional story that portrays real people) an actor may play a real person (or a fictional version of the same).

WHAT IS AN AUDITION?

An audition is a sample performance by an actor, singer, musician, dancer or other performing artist. It is used in the casting process to demonstrate the level and range of a performer’s talent, and functions as a job interview for the performing arts. A typical audition involves the performer displaying their talent through a previously memorized and rehearsed solo piece: for example, a monologue for actors or a song for a singer. For actors, the audition piece is typically not from the show being considered; an actor wishing to be cast in Hamlet would not likely do a monologue from that play. However, most performers do have a range of audition pieces and select something appropriate; an actor auditioning for Hamlet would have a dramatic Shakespearean monologue ready, and not perform a monologue from an Oscar Wilde comedy, or a contemporary playwright. Similarly, a singer auditioning for a role in a musical theatre production would not sing opera or country music, and a musician auditioning for a seat in an orchestra wouldn’t perform rock. Some auditions involve cold reading, or performing a script that the actor is not familiar with. Likewise, musicians may be asked to sight read music at various levels of difficulty. This is similar to many dance auditions, in which the focus is on learning new choreography, rather than showcasing prepared work.

Catch Me If You Can Movie Review - Starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Tom Hanks

“Catch Me If You Can” is the very funny and amazing true story of Frank Abignale, Jr., a young man who cleverly cheats banks out of some four million dollars by age 19 by forging checks and posing as an airline pilot, a doctor, and a lawyer. Leonardo DiCaprio does a great acting job as Frank, as does Tom Hanks as Carl Henratty, an FBI agent and bank fraud specialist who catches onto Frank’s crimes and goes after him.

Frank Abignale, Sr. gets in trouble with the IRS in 1963 for income tax evasion. His wife divorces him and Frank Jr., their 16-year-old son, runs away from home. Frank Jr. then turns to a life of crime involving writing forged checks and disguising his identity by acting as an airline pilot, then a doctor and a lawyer. Frank uses what he’s watched on TV and in the movies to act out the parts.

After several fleeting sexual encounters, Frank meets and falls in love with a young woman named Brenda. He even proposes to her before telling her the truth.

Carl Henratty (Hanks) catches on to Frank and begins pursuing him. Several times, Frank manages to get away from him, however. Eventually Carl catches him in France and turns him over to the authorities. Frank spends three years in prison in France and is then transferred to the United States aboard an airplane. Frank manages to escape from the bathroom of the plane, however, just before the plane lands.

Eventually Carl catches Frank again, but this time, instead of sending him back to jail, he decides to have him work with him as a bank fraud investigator. Frank and Carl end up becoming good friends and various companies pay Frank millions of dollars for his services.
