Take A Trip to the Islands on Hawaiian Internet Radio

Hawaiian music consists of a good deal more than Don Ho singing "Tiny Bubbles" (not that there’s anything wrong with that–I like "Tiny Bubbles). It’s more than grass-skirted hula girls singing "Aloha-Oe" to groups of tourists.

The influence of Hawaiian music is also greater than most people would suspect. For instance, some musicologists believe that Hawaiian slack-key guitar playing, which surfaced on a number of popular recordings in the early 20th century, inspired the slide guitar sound of the Delta blues.

Thanks to Internet radio, it’s possible to explore the true depth and breadth of this beautiful musical genre. There are several Web broadcasters who stream Hawaiian music 24 hours a day, seven days a week. All you need to enjoy it, besides an Internet connection, is media player software, a good sound card and speakers or headphones.

The strumming of ukuleles or Hawaiian guitar will quickly transport you to a sandy South Seas beach lapped by warm waters and sheltered by palm trees. But Hawaiian music can be much more than the soundtrack to a mental vacation. It can also be educational.

For instance, I recently visited the Hawaiian Rainbow Web site, one of the premier providers of free streaming Hawaiian music. While listening to "Somewhere Over the Rainbow" being by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole, I noticed links to sub-sections of the site, organized by island–the Big Island, Kauai, Maui, Molokai, Oahu. Evidently, each island in the Hawaiian chain produces its own distinctive music and boasts its own native performing artists.

I definitely plan to return to the site soon to learn more about the differences and similarities between the different islands’ musical traditions. On my first visit, though, I was content to enjoy the "all-islands" offerings of Hawaiian Rainbow’s main streaming music channel. These included "E Wai’anae" by The Pandanus Club, "Hilo Hula" by Holunpe, "Beautiful ‘Ilima" by Martin Pahinui, "Haleiwa Hula" by Gabby Pahinui and "Hawai’i Aloha" by the Hawaiian All Star Band.

One day I shall visit the tropical paradise of Hawaii in person. Until then, though, I’ll always know where to go when I feel the need for a quick mind-trip to the land of leis and coconuts: Hawaiian Internet radio.

Unforgettable Moments From The Age of Self-Discovery

The first staging post of my life (the Age of Discovery) was memorable for a lot of things, not least my own innocence and naivety. At 17 years I weighed only 94-lbs and I fixated on a pair of hipster trousers which I wore everywhere, as it showed off my curves to perfection. It had a red heart-shaped patch sewn smack in the middle of the backside which read ‘Kiss My Patch’ and I loved to imagine the effect of more conservative people walking behind me and reading it! It seemed so cheeky and risqué then but incredibly twee now.

It was a time when Bob Marley and the Wailers were just a fledgling group, standing on a street corner off Connolly Avenue in Kingston, Jamaica, practicing their art and constantly teasing young girls, like me and my sixth form friends, to attract our attention. Often telling us how ‘sweet and innocent’ we looked, and said with a wicked smile of appreciation. We paid little attention, of course, because ‘nice girls’ did not respond, only smiled coyly and kept moving. We knew by then that, if it were left up to them, we would not have been ‘sweet and innocent’ for long!

The young Wailers too were at their first staging post, a long way from their firm Rastafarian principles, with their hair cropped in very short Afros and their musical enthusiasm rife. Their first song, Put It On, was just about to take off, though they didn’t know it then. A year before my hipster pants, I had got my first job earning a meagre £6 per week as secretary to the popular singer, Prince Buster, regarded as good wages then! It introduced me to the amazing machinations of the Jamaican music industry, and I was soon to be caught up in a musical war between pioneering music mogul and singer Prince Buster, and another well-known singer, Derrick Morgan. There was also a brief friendship with the very talented Jimmy Cliff, who was just a boy next door at his mother’s house off the Spanish Town Road, hungry for success and doing the rounds with his records.

More conservative in age

It was a fascinating and exciting world which everyone took in their stride. Singers were just ordinary members of the community, no matter how famous they were, and, at that young age, I could not appreciate what it would mean by the time I was 55 because the young do not think in long-term ways. I was also not experienced or knowledgeable enough to recognise the music scene’s global potential or significance. Our little island music seemed so isolated then until the advent of Millie Small, Prince Buster and, of course, Robert Nesta Marley who took it to the greatest heights and became a worldwide icon. How could I have known then, while exchanging teasing smiles and cheeky comments with him, that he would become the world’s most famous Rastafarian?

I would never wear that patch on my bum now, 40 years on, having naturally emerged more ‘conservative’ in actions due to age and experience, and I still have it as a keepsake to remind me of my ‘wilder’ days! But, at that time, I wanted to attract attention, to appear appealing to the men around me and to compete against my female rivals. I wore the skimpiest of tops, the shortest of mini-skirts that left little to the imagination and hipster jeans that showed off my assets to good effect. It seems like the past coming back to haunt me whenever I see today’s young women doing exactly the same thing in their hipsters, mini-skirts and even skimpier tops, believing they are much more modern than we used to be, and it is so déjà vu and so very, very funny.

Altogether, this was a time when I was terribly naive, and unconsciously sought the kind of control in a partner I already had from my mother. By the time I had reached Staging Post 3, I had matured to such an extent, I valued independence even more and resented such control. The seeds of my own discontent were already being sown from then on.

Entertainment - Opera

Trying to get your 16 year old acid rocker son to go to an Opera is like trying to get President Bill Clinton to admit that he had sex with that Lewinsky gal. You’ve got one big fight ahead of you. The truth is, if we didn’t have the opera, we wouldn’t have some of the other great music of our time as ultimately every form of music, especially Broadway musicals, comes from the classics. And there is no more classic than grand opera.

There’s a reason that most operas are sung in Italian. Most of the great writers of opera were Italian. The few English language operas we have, like “The Barber Of Seville” don’t compare to the old grand Italian operas. And it is those operas that have given us some of the greatest singers in the history of music.

Great singers go back many years. Keeping this discussion to the 20th century, one needs to go no farther than the incomparable Jussi Bjoerling, as he was called. Bjoerling lived from 1911 to 1960. He actually wasn’t even Italian but Swedish born. But he was one of the greatest of our time. He was the leading tenor at the New York Metropolitan Opera for more than 20 years. Some of this most memorable performances however were not done at the Met but at the Rome Opera House under the direction of Jonel Perlea where he appeared in some of the greatest operas ever written, including “Cavalleria Rusticana” and “Tosca” and “Carmen”, just to name a few.

In the opera world, many people were constantly comparing Bjoerling to another great tenor by the name of Enrico Caruso. Caruso actually came long before Bjoerling, having been born in 1873. At the time he was considered the greatest tenor of all time. After the arrival of Bjoerling, the debate began. Most opera lovers are torn between the two as to who is the greatest. Caruso actually had technical problems early in his career that he did not overcome until the turn of the century when he was finally able to move away from resorting to falsetto or transposition. Caruso gave many memorable performances during his all too brief career which included probably his most popular role in “I Pagliacci” where he sings what has become his most famous aria, “Vesti La Giubba”.

The opera world did not just belong to the men. There have been many great women who have come to the opera stage over the years. One of the most famous of these is Leontyne Price who was born in 1927 and still lives today, though she has long stopped her operatic career. Price had many victories in her career. Her biggest was probably on January 27, 1961, when she made her debut at the Metropolitan Opera House while playing Leonora in the Verdi classic “Il Trovatore”. Her performance was so incredible that it resulted in her getting a 42 minute standing ovation. This was one of the longest in the history of the Met. The critics reviews of her performance labeled it as “flawless”.

These few greats only scratch the surface of what opera has given us. If you’ve never been to the grand opera, by all means go. Even if you have to leave your 16 year old acid rocker home.

Why You Must Have A Digital Camera

Do you enjoy taking lots of pictures? Taking photos is probably the single most effective way to document our lives and special occasions. In fact, you can never have too many pictures. Your photo albums are probably the most valuable possession you had.

Memories are the only things that cannot be replaced. Make sense to you? If you have been taking a lot of photos with your family, it is fun to glance back on them and see how your child was like as a newborn and when they first went to school in their cute clothes. How about how your spouse look like while courting? How those retro clothes look so funny now?

These are priceless moments. The great thing about these special times is that they can now be captured in a whole new way. I am referring to a digital camera. Now with technological advances, we can have affordable digital cameras. The sizes are getting more compact too.

A digital camera is one of those necessities in life. It’s an electronic wonder that none of us should be without. I can still remember the days before I had a digital camera. Yikes, I’m glad those are a part of the past. Film was always such a hassle. First you have to head out to the local food or drug store, buy the film and put it in the camera. Then you can take around 32 pictures, hoping that they all came out right, and then proceed back to the drugstore in order to have them developed.

This is a pain and a burden to say the least. Once you’ve been exposed to a digital camera, you’ll never want to go back to the old-school ways. Oh, and we shouldn’t forget all the money we save by not having to purchase film. This is a major bonus.

You want to know why digital cameras are so popular nowadays. I will tell you why, plain and simple. Folks love the convenience a digital camera provides. You can take as many photos as you want, whenever you want. Simply erase the ones you don’t like immediately. It’s that easy. Then you can download all of your pictures to your personal computer. I love being able to print out my own from home. It saves a lot of time, effort and cash. There’s no reason to rely on anyone.

If you want to, you can simply download the photos into a storage media and you can bring it to a local photo shop for development. If you have internet access, you could even upload your photos to an online photo development service provider. You can have the photos delivered right to your door step.

If you are in search of a digital camera, simply hop on the web for a vast selection to pick from. Just remember to get a decent sized memory card of at least 512MB if you like to click a lot.

New Concept In Contemporary Art - Lady Artist Showing Her Amazing Skill

The human world has always been changing, but the pace of change seems to have picked up dramatically in the last decade or two, with no stability visible on even long-range scanners. Rapid change is obvious in all of the technological, political, business and social fields, and there are changes in our environment and ecosystem that are probably caused by this increasing human activity.

The works of Satyabhama Majhi says everything about this changes. She also conceptualize fictional entities. She imagine structures, and make them. mental space includes many imaginary items. She uses shared mechanisms for storing abstract knowledge, and build on these abstractions to develop and share more abstractions works of art. But there are other limitations to inventiveness. No one could have imagined most of today’s technologies in the 10th century because even the basic building blocks for the concepts didn’t exist then. After vewing her work one can say, it is a real artistic expression, how everything is changing with increase of populations. She is brilliant at handelling it into her canvas and her work gives a strong message. Absolutely it is rare to find such talent now a days.

Peruvian Poems (while in Transition 5 & 6)

5) Lima’s Political: Pot of Crickets (2005)

There is a ‘Pot of Crickets’ called death

(in Lima, Peru)
and they can hear its heartbeat,—
sense its pulse

(and in the darkness, see even the eyes,
lips, and nakedness, of its people).
And they can hear the breath (oh yes, oh
yes—these crickets ((of and for the people));
they have time to spare,—
they whisper, condescending

(the pulse that speaks their name))
life is but a little flame));
the love they speak in—, is in vain;
this pot of crickets: Lima’s politicians…!

6) Chilled in Lima

It is Sunday morning, in Lima, Peru—

October; the silence of the night
has been broken
by the house’s human chilled voices.
We all sit at the dinning room table:
Coffee, tea, watching Cesar Hildebrandt
on TV.

Noises,— noises of this ruffled early
morning—(akin to a running brook
of chilled water): life has a sweet scent to
it: a soft touch, a cool breeze—; the tea is
warm: like drinking a thawing out frozen

shadow: a good, shadow!…

The Best Wildlife Camera To Take On Safari

Good wildlife camera equipment on safari can make the difference between pictures you will be proud to show your friends and family when you get back and ones where it’s difficult to figure out exactly what you were photographing because it’s only a fuzzy black dot surrounded by green vegetation.

I take wildlife photographs for a living and I have had to quickly figure out what the best cameras and lenses are to get the job done effectively.

Digital or Film - Which is better for a safari?

Wild animals are very unpredictable. That’s one aspect of safari photography that makes it so exciting because you never know what you are going to get but this also means that the number of pictures you need to take to get a keeper increases.

And if you use film that can become very expensive whereas with a digital wildlife camera you can take as many as you want and then just delete the ones where the lion has ducked behind a bush, the cheetah has blurred because the autofocus locked onto a twig in front of it and the exposure of the hippo was way off because of the reflected sunlight in the water.

You can also make consistent use of bracketing to get the perfect exposures without worrying about cost or running out of film which can be a problem in certain remote areas of Africa where safaris take place.

So more is better in this case but what about quality? The fact is that digital quality is fast catching up to film unless you fall into the professional category and are going to be selling your safari pictures or entering them into competitions. In that case it might be better to stick to film because the trained eye will be able to spot the difference but in most other cases digital quality is more than adequate.

Digital also gives you valuable feedback while you are still on safari so that you can try and improve on that elephant picture with the ear cut off the next day. You also have a lot more control over the final product because you can use software like Photoshop to enhance and fine tune your pictures.

Digital SLR or Compact Wildlife Camera

A safari is the dream trip of a lifetime and it’s a great opportunity to get some fantastic wildlife pictures but it’s not necessary to buy the latest and greatest digital SLR and lenses to get them unless you are planning to take nature pictures for a living or are a serious photography enthusiast and are going to make regular use of the camera and lenses after the safari anyway.

The cost of a digital SLR wildlife camera is high compared to a compact but that is only half the story. The lenses that you need to purchase for decent wildlife photography often cost more than the camera itself making it a very expensive business indeed.

And a bulky camera body and multiple interchangeable lenses do add to the weight of your luggage and the inconvenience of carrying everything around with you.

Digital compact cameras on the other hand are not extremely expensive and the results that you can obtain from them are almost on a par with a digital SLR camera and you don’t have to worry about any additional lenses if the compact you buy has a decent zoom covering the range from 80mm to about 300mm. There are a few of them on the market that do have lenses like this and the range of the zooms increase every year.

And compact cameras live up to their name by being relatively small and light and one lens means no additional weight or carrying and no time wasted changing to another lens to suit the situation.

The Best SLR Digital Wildlife Camera for Nature Photography

If you have decided to go with a digital SLR then by all accounts the best one to purchase for wildlife photography at the moment is the Canon EOS 20D due to the blinding speed of its shutter release (near instantaneous) and its continuous shooting speed of 5 frames per second to a maximum burst depth of twenty three frames. It also powers up in next to no time at all.

This wildlife camera is as fast as you will ever need to freeze wildlife action and get the picture in the can before the animal moves off into the undergrowth.

There are other SLR cameras that are nearly as good like the Nikon D70 and the Pentax ist D so take a look at them too before making a decision.

The Best Compact Digital Wildlife Camera for Nature Photography

Canon comes up trumps again in the compact camera category with the Canon Powershot S2 IS. The factor that makes this camera ideal for safari wildlife photography is its huge 12X optical zoom lens (36 - 432mm equivalent) with a built in image stabiliser which cuts down on blur when using such a massive zoom lens.

A 5 megapixal sensor is more than enough to produce stunning safari images and as long as you can live with a slight shutter release lag and power up delay this compact wildlife camera is perfect for a safari trip.

Star-Fire Ceremony

The Templar flag Columbus and da Gama traveled under was the dominant economic (and therefore if for no other reason) force in the three centuries before they set sail. Not just in Europe as we have shown, but in the entire world, these progeny of the Phoenician Brotherhood ended feudal socio-political strangleholds and opened the way for new possibilities. For these reasons and the eventual weakening of the church influence and Inquisitions (though that is what the church started against THEM!) we can truly be thankful.

This superficial evaluation is only one aspect of what we analyzed with input from all available quarters and presented a real and true threat from the continued macho or competitive nature of those in pursuit of power. Their progeny has lost much of the righteous underpinnings of the Templar zeal. Needless to say their influence has not been exposed in the cultural history of our various media including schools. Therefore constant harping on the subject is somewhat warranted. I only seek to set the stage for their specific history and influence on the time of Marco Polo and another ‘fiction’ that was used to create the impression that there was a need for ‘discovery’ of the ‘New World’. The idea that the land of the Dragons in China was not part of a world order continues to the present. There are many perspectives on the origin of the Templars and why they were given Papal ‘carte-blanche’ but let me quote Gardner again to see something far more ancient than most scholars purporting to know when Templars or Masons became a part of our cultural fabric. He is talking about a re-structuring of much more ancient mystery schools at this juncture.

“It has long been a customary Jewish practice to hang meat for blood-letting before cooking and consumption, but in contrast the Christian faith is especially concerned with the figurative ingestion of blood. In the Christian tradition it is customary to take the Communion sacrament (the Eucharist), wherein wine is drunk from the sacred chalice, symbolically representing the blood of Jesus, the life-blood of the Messianic line. Could it be, therefore, that the modern Christian custom is an unwitting throwback to some distant pre-Noah rite of actually ingesting blood? If so, then since we also know that the chalice is a wholly female symbol which has always been emblematic of the womb, might this even have been an extract from divine menstrual blood which, as we have seen (Chapter 10), was revered as life-giving ‘Star-Fire’? The answer to these questions is yes, that was precisely the custom - but it was not so unsavoury as it might seem. (3) Few of us think to enquire about the ultimate sources of many of today’s bodily supplements, and those in the know are generally reluctant to tell us. The premarin hormone, for example, is made from the urine of pregnant mares, while some forms of growth hormone and insulin are manufactured from ‘E.coli’, a human faecal bacterium.

Before considering this ancient practice in detail, it is worth reminding ourselves that the edict to abstain from blood came not from Enki the Wise but from Enlil-Jehovah, the god of wrath and vengeance who had instigated the Flood, wrought havoc in Ur and Babylon and endeavoured to deceive Adam with regard to the Tree of Knowledge. This was not a god who liked people and the Sumerian records are very clear in this regard. If he forbade the intake of blood, this was not likely to have been an edict for the benefit of Noah and his descendants - it was most probably to their detriment.

The menstrual Star Fire (’Elixir Rubeus’) of the goddess, being essentially regarded as fluid intelligence, was symbolically represented as the all-seeing eye {The circle with a dot again.}, or as the fiery cross (the ‘rosi-crucis’) {The Circle with the cross.}, precisely as depicted in the Mark of Cain. The emblems were later used by the mystery school of ancient Egypt, particularly that of the priest-prince Ankhfn-khonsu (c.2170 BC {Check out Crowley’s Book of the Law and the name at the end of it.}, which was formally established as the Dragon Court by the twelfth-dynasty Queen Sobeknefru.

Another of the most prominent mystery schools was the Great White Brotherhood of Rameses III (c. 1450 BC) - so called, it is often said, because of their white raiment, but actually named because of their preoccupation with a mysterious white powder {Through ‘high-spin’ atomic attunement able to levitate the pyramid blocks, he says.}. According to the Supreme Grand Lodge of the Ancient and Mystical Order Rosae Crucis, there were thirty-nine men and women on the High Council of the Brotherhood, who sat at the Temple of Karnak in Luxor. (4) A branch off this Order became more generally known as the Egyptian Therapeutae, who in Heliopolis and Judaea, were identified as the Essenes. (5) It was into this White Brotherhood of wise therapeutics and healers (the original Rosicrucians) that Jesus was later initiated to progress through the degrees, and it was his high standing in this regard which gained him the often used designation of ‘Master’… ‘essaios’: that is, something secret or mystic. (In the Norse tradition, the gods are called the ‘Asen’, the guardians of purity, and the word has a similar root.)…

In the hermetic lore of the ancient Egyptian mystery school, this process of achieving enlightened consciousness was of express importance, with spiritual regeneration taking place by degrees through the thirty-three vertebrae of the spinal column {Including the tail bones or sacrum and coccyx.} until reaching the pituitary gland which invokes the pineal body. The science of this regeneration is one of the ‘Lost Keys’ of Freemasonry, and it is the reason why ancient Freemasonry was founded upon thirty-three degrees.” (6)

Though they have impressive pedigrees and lots of nice myths I am sure their knowledge is limited by the lack of ethics entailed in the elitist attitudes and acts of their members. Levitation and use of cosmic thought field potentials including one dimensional harmonic force and the probable ‘Lost Chord’ pre-dates these people, in my mind or point of view. MacDari is a Masonic linguist who suggests this time was even before the building of the Sphinx, and he says Phre-Masonry of the Lord Sun God Iesa was an early Brotherhood of Man that Jesus was named after. Gardner admits to ‘pre-Noah’ knowledge and probably has an open-mind about earlier roots, but his story focuses on the Bible and the Pendragon Grail legends.

Two Baseball Betting Tips

Betting on baseball is a great way to make MLB games more interesting. How do you select your teams to bet on? Are you one of those coin flippers? Or do you just randomly pick a side? I am going to share with you a couple of baseball betting tips that you should look for when deciding on a team. The best thing about the baseball season is the number of betting opportunities it gives you. Each team plays 162 games per year, which means many betting chances just about every day of the season.

Tip One: Pitchers

First of all, don’t ever bet solely on a pitcher. While the game has some dominate pitchers, they rarely pitch the entire game. The average innings per game for a pitcher is usually between 6 and 7. The bullpen of each team comes into play often. How many times have you seen a really good pitcher go out there, pitch well and either get a no decision or lose? It happens quite often.

Think about this. Most pitchers will have 33-35 starts per season. A great pitcher will win 17-20 games per season. That still leaves up to 50% of his starts that he didn’t win. He may have not lost, but he at least got a no decision. You certainly want to take the pitcher into consideration, but in moderation. Imagine he has control for up to 60% of the game. What about the other 40%?

Tip Two: Losing Streaks

No matter how tempting it is, don’t ever bet on a team simply because they are on a losing streak. While all streaks end, some can go on for quite awhile. Many baseball bettors lose money each year because they chase streaks the wrong way. They also compound that error by increasing their bets with each loss.

If you are going to bet on a streak, bet with it. For example, if one team has won 5 games in a row and the other has lost 5 games in a row, take the winning team if you can’t make up your mind using other factors. Do teams win or lose 10 games in a row? You bet. How about 15? Sure do. Don’t try to rationalize a team’s losing streak. If there are other reasons to bet on the losing team that’s fine.

These are two baseball betting tips that should help you enhance your betting. There are countless others, but these two focus on two very common mistakes among baseball bettors. Sports handicapping is a science and to get better, you need to practice and focus on the little specific details of the game.
