Religion, The Great Divider of Mankind

Religion deludes and divides mankind
It misrepresents God and is not kind.
Promising power
Religion exerts control
Claiming to have truth
Religion deceives and acts uncouth
Projecting superiority
It alienates people in inferiority
Comparing and competing
With different doctrines
Separating from other sects
By segregation religion neglects
Humanity for whom Christ died
Ironically, religion is the great divide
Which widens the gap
Points the finger and does attack
Ridicule, scold, and demean
Sincere souls seeking spirituality
Religion is not what it seems
It is merely an illusion
Mankind’s search to satisfy
A deep inner quest and cry
To be reconnected to the Creator
To open faith’s glorious door
Historically however
Religion has been rotten to the core
Let us not embrace it any more
The sophisticated establishment
Is in reality an entrapment
Producing systematic enslavement
Obscuring the light of God
Making the narrow path broad
Discriminating and diminishing people
While it erects an edifice and steeple
Pursuing power at the expense of peace
From such ill will God give us release
Continual conflict, war without end
God in heaven wants to be our Friend.
Let’s expose the deficiencies of dead religion
Overthrow the dastardly defects of mere opinion
The concept of kingdom must be reintroduced
In wayward Western civilization
It’s not about imperialism, nor education
This is Christ within, a new creation
A changed heart, a divine work of art
This is not a political ideology
By which you appear smart
On the contrary, God in heaven
Graciously gives humanity a new start
Beyond blood, death, and diplomacy
Exists the kingdom of heaven in me
God alone can open your eyes to see
Righteousness, peace, and joy in me
The kingdom within brings victory
Birthed by the Holy Spirit of the Lord
Established and sustained by His Word
Conquering conflict, hatred, and fear
Blessing whosoever will humbly hear
Removing uncertainty, and corruption
Genocide, poverty, and starvation
The concept of Christ’s kingdom
Births a spiritual revolution
Empowering people with dominion
Removing religion’s pitiful opinion.
No more should we massacre millions
And claim we’re motivated by religion
God in heaven is a life-giver, not a killer!
God’s Son died for us
Therefore we don’t need to die for Him.
Just receive the King and get in the kingdom
Christ the King will make your heart sing
No need to bring an offering
Give Him your heart, submit to His Lordship
His mighty power will you equip
Your sin and bondage, He will strip
Embrace his purpose wholeheartedly
Transcend formality and religiosity
No more shall religion oppress humanity
For soon all shall taste and see
The spirit of grace that reconciles peaceably.

A Special Note to Band Directors About Oboe Reeds

Let it be known that I like band directors, and that without mine long ago I would not be sitting here writing about what I know about the oboe.

He was (and probably still is) a wonderful man who encouraged me, taught me what he knew but then was humble enough to say that he could take me no further. He recommended a professional oboist in town so I could continue learning the things he could not teach me, and I am forever grateful.

So, you could say I have a great deal of respect for band directors.

I know they are teaching a lot of kids a lot of different instruments, and there is no way anybody can be an expert on all of them. I give them credit for trying!

But there’s something that has been coming up a lot in my teaching and even when fielding reed questions that has been bothering me. And although I am sure band directors aren’t the only ones to “blame,” that’s where I am starting to work towards a solution.

The problem seems to be in advising the young band oboists in the selection of oboe reeds. Now, many a band director has bought handmade oboe reeds from me, so there are exceptions.

But to the majority out there, do you know how much easier teaching the oboe would be if you handed out handmade oboe reeds instead of fibercane or even those awful profiled music-store reeds?

The reason is plain and simple.

These reeds do not encourage good habits and make the oboe difficult to play, more difficult that it ever needs to be.

The idea I keep hearing is that somehow, good reeds are reserved for good students… but that is completely wrong. A good, handmade oboe reed should be provided for every beginning oboist on their very first day of playing the oboe.

Talk to a professional oboist and see if they can work with you in making reeds that young students can handle, or consult a professional reedmaking company (yes, like mklreeds.com MKL Reeds) that can work with these requests.

Although we need “labels” on reeds so that we all know what we are talking about, these labels are perhaps the least helpful part of all of this. Find a place that can make reeds for beginning students, and that should be pretty much all you need to say.

I am on my soapbox lately about all this “hard, medium hard, soft” stuff!! There is also this very large misconception out there that once a student has been playing for more than a year they need to “graduate” to a “harder” reed… and by the time they have been playing a while they are being handed these “hard” reeds they can’t even play!

I just don’t understand where this all came from, thinking that increased ability on the oboe somehow means you should make it harder for someone to actually play.

Now, it’s not entirely the fault of a band director. And the situation is not exactly helped by machine made reed manufacturers that are labeling their reeds in this way either.

Here’s my take on it:

An oboist needs a reed he can play, NO EXCEPTIONS!!

Buy oboe reeds for your students that are handmade and are not classified in this way, unless you can talk to someone and explain what you need.

What a more advanced student needs in a reed is resistance, which is much different that hardness. So, stop handing them hard reeds once they pass the year mark, and especially when they seem like they are struggling.

Unless you can scrape these reeds down for them, they should not be encouraged. Better yet, get reeds from a professional oboist because these will make your job easier and it will make your students improve faster and probably enjoy playing a lot more.

I can’t imagine how hard a job it is to be in your shoes, but think of the amazing start you can help give to each and every kid that chooses to play the oboe.

Land-Use and Alternative Energies Go Together

So often the word “environmentalism” strikes a negative note with farms and industries that operate on larger bodies of land. It has been equated with “tree-hugger” types who want nothing more than to shut down the industrial operations of the United States, bringing production to a full stop and causing the lifestyle we are used to having to come to an abrupt halt. On the flip side, “industrialism” has been viewed by its opponents as rampant, unchecked capitalism, that pollutes the air, the water, takes what it needs to function, and leaves a damaging mark. All of this for the purpose of turning massive profits that fill the pockets of corporate America and leave behind it a dying earth. Perhaps both views are extremist, and we are not as far apart as some may think.

The industrial backbone of all nations in the last 100 years has been built firmly on the burning of petroleum products. The discovery of petroleum at the beginning of the 20th century, as well as the discovery of its many by-products allowed for the development of machinery never before imagined. Mass production of all types of goods and services allowed for a number of things to occur. Each of us will have to judge whether or not these were good outcomes, but none-the-less, short of a holocost we can never go back.

Mass production and large-scale industry caused:
The specialization of the work force. Most people involved in industries began to specialize in their training and thinking, causing them to become very proficient at their trade…..and very poor at others. This caused an inter-reliance of industries. Each group of people specializing in one area had a need for goods or services provided by another.

The migration of farm workers to the cities, and the growth of large cities. Mechanization of farm labor required less need for farm workers to produce the food. In turn, the same mechanization of industrial businesses gave rise to their need for more workers. Farm men and women left the rural areas and moved to the city, which promised a better life in financial and recreational needs. Cities grew to incredible sizes, accommodating the housing and business requirements for the city. Export cities became common, as the productivity of America went beyond its own needs. Businesses saw the opportunity to sell products to other countries, and production continued to grow.

Production of non-necessities: Many businesses looking to carve their own niche invented and/or mass-produced new and exciting items for sale to the public. Basic needs were being met, but both producers and consumers continued to want more conveniences (will that ever change?) and so a host of new conveniences in communications, toys, trinkets, sporting goods, and more things than we could ever list came into production.

These are just a few of the things created because of industrialism. As a result, a nation of people now believes that a cell phone, 5 pairs of shoes, a microwave, and a television are just some of the basic necessities of life. The government agrees, and will provide welfare assistance to people who cannot afford such “basics”.

The United States now consumes 20 million barrels of crude oil each and every day, and that number is expected to go up. In addition, the country consumes over 1 billion tons of coal and 22,375 billion cubic feet of natural gas every year. Other industrialized nations such as the European Union, Russia, and China are huge energy consumers as well.

Which brings us to our present problem: scientists continue to preach that there isn’t enough crude oil to last indefinitely. Predictions are all over the board, from as low as 40 years to as high as 150 years of remaining crude reserves. One can argue that new reserves will be found, or that the government is lying. We believe both of those are likely. But nonetheless, everyone pretty much agrees that petroleum energies are being consumed and not put back. With this in mind, it becomes important to venture into the development of non-petroleum fuels (or alternative fuels) well ahead of schedule, in order to develop technologies that can replace petroleum use.

As we can see in recent pricing trends, petroleum prices will continue to climb until other fuels DO become affordable. It merely becomes a matter of plotting your own graph on the pricing. Maybe solar power is not feasible with $2.00/gallon gasoline, but what if gasoline were $5.00? How about if it were $10.00? Running out of petroleum is not what is going to drive the price up…..it happens long before that. The public perception of running out of petroleum is what drives future pricing. Anyone who observes the stock markets knows that when bad news comes out about a corporation, stock instantly takes a dive. Why? Profits are rolling in just the same. It is because of the public perception that profits will drop for the company, and nobody wants to be holding the stock. A mass sell-off by the public and a reduced desire to own the same results in a drop in price. In contrast, an increased desire and a perceived shortage will drive prices ever higher.

Whether you are a small farmette or an industry with 6 smoke stacks, we believe that rising energy costs will continue to be one of the most challenging obstacles of the 21st century. New inventions and ideas are needed that can promote and produce large scale energy products for use in the industries of our nation. Perhaps you will never own a backyard alcohol still, but maybe you will be raising barley for an ethanol plant 20 miles away that produces a million gallons a day. Perhaps you are a steel worker who is turning out windmill frames that support huge windmills across the mid-west. Or maybe you are a niche industry that produces automobile circuit boards that merge the power of the gasoline engine and electric motor (hybrid cars) under the hood of American automobiles. Each industry contributing to the energy problem we face can make a small but growing difference between keeping our cities running, or having mass starvation and blackouts that leave our cities as helpless as sitting ducks.

If you have viewed our web pages, you know that we have devoted a section to alternative energy. We believe there could be immediate benefits to small business, and since we are a “grass roots” paper, we are looking at the energy problem the same way. We can’t effectively do much for the world’s energy crisis, but we can get local inventors to start thinking about the problem. Small businesses and farms around PA can perhaps save themselves $100 a month by developing something that either produces energy for them, or reduces their need. Congress is giving a hard look at the same thing, and in April they passed an energy bill that was favorable to alternative developments. It also favors the resale of electricity back into the grid. You’re not likely to see cash, but many of the contracts allow you an electricity credit. If you pump 1,000 kilowatts into the grid, you can get 1,000 free kw back to you at a later date. More rises in the cost of petroleum will spurn Congress to create more incentives for engineers and inventors to help convert America.

We believe that land industries can be the entrepreneurial base for energy designs. They’ve got the land, and often they have the equipment and technical resources. Small businesses often have people with the drive and ingenuity to reinvent the wheel—-and are able to “come in under the wire” politically, thus avoiding the pressures of high-power lobbyists, funded by petroleum fuel companies to convince the public that everything is OK.

Where do environmentalists fit it? Many of them have urged alternative energy development for decades, and will be at the forefront of the ingenious technologies that America is likely to produce. Others will see the benefits of slowly moving the world away from petroleum usage, with regard to earthly contaminants and political unrest among nations. They will also continue to be “pollution watchdogs”, making sure that new technologies do not damage our world even worse than what we have now.

It is important to remember that most energy production (i.e. energy use) pollutes the environment. Reduction of pollutants is a more realistic goal than elimination. For instance, ethanol technology may design a plant that produces ethanol by burning coal for its energy and have a positive energy gain with reduced emissions per btu. Maybe leveling 1,000 acres of federal forest land for solar collectors puts enough electric in the grid to offset the loss of the trees. What energy industries will focus on is creating a net gain in energy production; environmentally, people should accept new technologies that produce less negative impacts than what the old system did. New systems do not have to be “ideal” when starting out….they only need to be an environmental improvement over older systems. There are many factors that weigh in, including political ones. For example, it may cost a certain amount of money to refine a million barrels of crude, but then it might also cost $100 billion every 10 years for a war to keep the crude supply secure. (Ya think our war machine pollutes a little?) Many, many factors must weigh in to final decisions in embracing new technology, and we are confident that environmental leaders in this country have the capacity to think beyond their bare feet in the tulips.

If one looks hard enough, nearly every human action causes pollution. When a shaft spins in a bearing, it causes heat, and a purist could claim that this causes global warming. For all of our sakes, please get a grip. Cooperation between environmentalism and energy techs will be imperative in order to bring better technologies on-line. As we’ve stated before, the human footprint is huge, and it cannot be undone. As stewards of the land, we must pro-actively seek better ways to create the power we need to perform work. Rising prices will be a constant reminder of this. American ingenuity has always faced its task and succeeded. We believe that the greatest nation in the world can meet this challenge as well.

Miley Cyrus - A Mother’s Dream

Young girls don’t have enough good heroines to look up these days. Sure, there are lots of cute girls running all over the television, but half of them seem to be on the verge of stripping off the rest of their clothes and the other half are unbelievably goody-two-shoes. I was a girl myself once, and I can still remember Punky Brewster and the girls on Full House. It just seems like now that I’m a mother, I can’t seem to find the same “normal” type of characters for my daughter to watch.

Role Model
I know that I am the best role model my child needs. I already do what I can to avoid some of the nastier curse words around her and find nice things to say to and about everyone. (Believe me, it’s definitely a challenge sometimes.) I carefully screen her friends (and her friends’ parents) to make sure she isn’t going to be hanging out with the next Brittany Spears or Lindsay Lohan, but there is definitely something lacking still.

When I sit down to watch television with my not-so-little girl in the evenings, I want to find something that everyone can enjoy and something that is appropriate for everyone. This leaves out 99% of the reality shows and anything on a music channel. As far as evening television shows go, there just isn’t much out there that satisfies the whole family.

A Stroke of Luck
Fortunately, we had a serious stroke of luck the other day. A friend, who also has a daughter too old for Dora and too young for the Housewives, stumbled across thedollpalace.com/dollmaker/cartoon/miley-cyrus/dress-up.php Miley Cyrus. Not only does Miley play a great character on her television show, she also is a quality person off the screen.

Onscreen thedollpalace.com/dollmaker/cartoon/miley-cyrus/dress-up.php Miley plays a girl who struggles with her true self and leans on her friends and family for support. She dresses appropriately, but fashionably, and looks healthy and happy. She is everything I know my daughter is and offers her a role model she might try to emulate.

Off screen, there is even more to Miley Cyrus. She is a real singer with a real solid wholesome family. She lives with her family who tries to protect her from the crazy Hollywood lifestyle and actually attends church every Sunday. Her father is a famous singer, and Miley is working to become one herself – in fact she’s already there. A wholesome family girl who goes to church while following her dreams? What else could a mother ask for?

Building Up Miley Cyrus
So without being obvious about it, I starting working to build up a “relationship” between Miley and my own rising starlet. We watched her show together; we shopped to find clothes like her. I even found some online Miley Cyrus dolls on TheDollPalace.com that were a big hit. I’m not looking to raise a clone of Miley, and my daughter would never allow it, but if my angel is willing to look up to Miley, I’m certainly not going to discourage it!

Good Times In Iraq

Well it’s been about three and a half years since we invaded Iraq and according to our fearless leader we are winning. Gee thats funny because our new defense secretary Bobby Gates has recently stated that in fact we are not winning the war. However Gates agrees with the president that failure in Iraq would cause calamity that would destabilize the region and weaken the credibility of our the nation. It seems to me that Bush has already accomplished most of that. We have back our selves in to a corner in the middle east and are left with a few options:

A)We could pull out immediately and say to f***ery with Iraq and all its problems. All though this seems enticing it would give the impression that America is like a kid poking at an anthill with a big stick then running home after being bitten, which isn’t to far from the truth.

B) We implement a short term increase the size of the military so we could squash the opposition once and for all. But don’t we have enough trouble as it is convincing the Iraqi people that we are not there to take over their country.

C: lessen the number of troops in Iraq in order to focus on training the Iraqi police and militia to take care of the problem themselves. So far the training of the Iraqi militia has run into several roadblocks, mainly a lack of discipline over the men. Most of the men reject the idea of being stationed away from their families and frequently disappear for days at a time mostly to visit family and deliver money to them since there is no national banking system to utilize. Some just decide they are over it and abandon their post completely. Yet there is no policy within the militia to crack down on this problem and the leaders are left impotent.

If none of these other ideas work we could also use good old fashioned diplomacy with Iraq’s neighboring countries Iran and Saudi Arabia. This idea sounds good in theory except both nations are big supporters of terrorism and the president of Iran (whose name I cannot pronounce or hope to spell) is a nut job who denies the Holocaust and preaches the downfall of the West and the destruction of Israel.

Whatever coarse of action the president decides to take it is my belief that America is f***ed and we should all move to Canada. See ya up north eh!

188 Stage Hero’s Journey (Monomyth): Final Conflict Breakout

The Hero’s Journey (Monomyth) is the template upon which the vast majority of successful stories and Hollywood blockbusters are based upon. In fact, ALL of the hundreds of Hollywood movies we have deconstructed (see URL below) are based on this 188 stage template.

Understanding this template is a priority for story or screenwriters. This is the template you must master if you are to succeed in the craft.

[The terminology is most often metaphoric and applies to all successful stories and screenplays, from The Godfather (1972) to Brokeback Mountain (2006) to Annie Hall (1977) to Lord of the Rings (2003) to Drugstore Cowboy (1989) to Thelma and Louise (1991) to Apocaplyse Now (1979)].

THERE IS ONLY ONE STORY

THE HERO’S JOURNEY:

a) Attempts to tap into unconscious expectations the audience has regarding what a story is and how it should be told.

b) Gives the writer more structural elements than simply three or four acts, plot points, mid point and so on.

c) Gives you a tangible process for building and releasing dissonance (establishing and achieving catharses, of which there are usually four).

d) Gives you a universal structural template upon which you can superimpose your situational story.

and more…

*****Final Conflict Breakout*****

Post the Crossing of the Return Threshold and before the Master of Two Worlds and Selves, a hell of a lot happens that is rarely given mention. The Final Conflict (a metaphor for this stage) follows a distinct process. The breakout in the final conflict comes when the hero defeats a significant antagonism or overcomes a significant obstacle. In Straw Dogs (1971), David defeats the Demon King (makes Tom shoot himself in the foot).

Please- Don’t Forget Me! [Letters From A Dying Man In Prison]

You ever do something you’re not sure of being comfortable with, then forget about it for nine-years only to wake up out of bed and say, ‘Hay, I remember him,’ and then you’re not sure of why he came to your mind, and is it worth more of your time. Oh well, this is that kind of a story. A true story and I will try to put it together the best I can, from the letters he wrote me during a twelve month period, from 1997-1998, there about.

I was working for the Volunteers of America, in Minneapolis, Minnesota at the time, as a Counselor, and Case Manager, for Federal prisoners (BOP), inmates that would come out of prison, conditionally, to find work, normally, a year before their time was up, and sometimes, six to three months (let me add, before I go on with this story, I do not support the VOA, or Volunteers of America, nor their philosophy, I think for the most part, it is a farce ((from what I’ve seen)), and much wrong was going on at that facility, when I worked there, I did not care for, and it was overlooked inmost cases by the higher ups, you couldn’t tell whom the inmates were from the staff: or whom were the better or worse crooks, was a good question).

Anyhow, I got a letter from an Amnesty International organization, I shall not pinpoint them, or their name, as I will also leave out the prison’s name, and the two people involved with this story. Again I say, I was sent this letter from Amnesty, whom was trying to get a reprieve for this certain person in prison going on ten-years, for being falsely accused of murder. He was a native of the Philippine islands, and around the mid 1980s, to the later part this took place, as a youth he was involved with a rebel group.

Now before I get into the letters of this man he sent me, which really is the premise of this story, likened to the VOA, the Amnesty, was not upfront with me about this man—not a fare player, not honest, deleted information as if to make their quest more justifiable, (I have been likened to a guard, and a soldier, so I’ve been on both sides of the fence here) and I have little respect for them because of that, nor would I support them in the future, although I did support these two men, in particular one, we shall call him Jose, his friend, Manual.

When I started writing Jose, he admitted he had a dictionary, English, and for me to be patient with him and his English; each word he wrote was big in the beginning, and sometimes misspelled, and the letters went on for two to three pages because of that, had they not been so big, they would have fit on one page.

In the first three months of his letters, they were rather skimpy, and I asked him to be more forthright with what was taking place with him, now, in the past, and what was his future outlook, especially since I was sending a few dollars his way, not much, for his extras he could purchase at the prison, such as cigarettes, and pencils and paper, est.

During this time he introduced me to his friend, Manual, and asked me to help him financially also, and I did send him a small check once, but it was only once, and that was it, I did not feel good about supporting his friend, and perhaps a lover, as he often seemed to express deep emotion for him (so this is conjecture on my part).

Anyhow, during the following nine months, he answered a lot of questions, some of the stuff was blacked out, but he was honest, and he said the guards would show the letters to their friends, and laugh all the way to the sensor (the person who would reread the letters to insure they were proper), which they blacken some of the stuff out, and left, surprisingly, a lot in (and under light I could read through the blackout parts, for the part). Perhaps they left much of it in, knowing it would not help him anyhow.

Too, I sent a letter, two letters to the President of the Philippines at that time, asking for them to review his crime, his case, that I understood it to be false. I received two letters back, one stating, they were looking into his situation, that he had caused some trouble during his stay in the prison, and it was hard to assure me of anything. The second letter told me almost the same news, but added he was being moved to another prison in the near future. That is when I lost track of him. But they also mentioned something serious also, that seemed to be hindering his case.

[The Letters] The letters acknowledged he did kill a soldier of the Philippines’ Army, which Amnesty did not consider murder, and the Government of the Philippines, considered otherwise. Jose, said he was with a rebel group at this time, trying to overthrow the government that is when he met, Manual. He had the perspective, perhaps the same one I had, soldier against soldier; I mean, Jose was fighting a cause he believe in, and he admitted it, and he was taken prisoner of war, as he said in so many words, plus he said: I deserve to be here, but not the death penalty, because I was a soldier, I simply was on the losing side. How true this was, but this was not the entire story. As a counselor, I never stop digging, and I usually find out more facts, facts, people want to delete at first, or generalize.

In one letter I confronted him with his actions in prison. He said in so many words: I’ve been here going on ten years, ten long years, I got in some fights, and I was again young, but must I be punished all my adult life for what I did in my youth. I asked him what he did, and he said he killed a guard, in self defense. He, nor the prison warden, whom I wrote would give me the facts; I suppose if he did, or they did, it might not help their cases, and it seemed there was two sides to the story, so he felt. So I was getting distortions, in addition to generalizations and deletions; if not from the prison warden, or Jose, the President’s writers, or helpers.

He continued to tell me about Manual, as if I cared, and to be quite honest, I didn’t all that much. But I knew he was lonely, so I left that issue alone, although I suppose it bothered me, he put him into each letter, at least a sentence, if not a few paragraphs. I tried not to show my distaste for that, and I don’t think he figured it out; he had enough problems without my biases.

About, in the middle of the process of sending back and forth letters, he talked about his early prison days. Here is what he said, I shall try to write it as I remember it, for I have only two letters left from him, whereas I had perhaps a dozen he sent at one time (I must rely on memory, mostly). He said they tortured him, burnt him with cigarettes to see who could burn a hole threw his flesh the fastest, a game, if I recall right, it was sometimes to the bone, and infection would seep in and he’d end up in the infirmary; no questions asked.

In other letters he described a chair, it seemed to me to be a common wooden chair, where he would sit in it, or on it, naked, and his arm, one arm, would be twisted in-between two wooden bars, that you would normally rest your back on, and the right leg, twisted between the legs of the chair, twisted and tied in some jacquard position, and left there for several hours, if not longer.

In another torture I had never heard of up to this point was, he’d be laid down on a bed, or bench of some sort, and his hand, one hand chained around the upper part of the bench, or bed, and his leg chained around the upper part of the foot or ankle, and tied round the leg of the bench or bed (I say bench or bed, because I can’t remember which one, if not both were used). Anyhow, here he would lay on the wooden surface for several hours, his hand being stretched upward, holding the weight of his body hanging downward, so his torso could not lay flat on the wooden surface—the bed part, and his leg stretched to its limit at the end of the item he was laying on, so he would get cramps in them, and not be able to do a thing, but suffer.

[Concluding statement] I’m not sure what is right and wrong in this case, he killed a guard, a friend I’m sure of the other guards, and they wanted revenge. He killed in war, which it seems, was more forgivable than his killing of the guard, so I’m told. And being a soldier, of Vietnam, I can understand part of this. But here was a youth, who lost it, will perhaps never know who Shakespeare was, or Thueydides, or Herodotus, the historian, or read Robert Frost’s poetry, or Homer, Villon, Catullus, although he sent me a poem once, saying “Please, don’t forget me!” I never told him I wrote, it was not part of our drama, our mixed up drama, it was his show, not mine, and so I dedicate this story to him, wherever he may be, and he very well may be dead for all I know. It is, this story, I make out, not as diverse as I could make it, almost expressionless, where I could have developed this text much more, justify, or try to, his stand if I wanted to, but it seems to me a nuisance, why? A man cannot clearly understand or grasp certain things unless he experiences them, and I haven’t in this case, only on the soldier side, and his facts; other people are involved, the family of the soldier. Maybe he deserved death, maybe not.

Unlimited Online Movie Rentals: a Joke!

With the advent of online movie rentals, millions of net users are signing up for the service. This concept was invented by NetFlix way back in 1999. The pioneers are still the leaders but are facing tough competition today in the form of IntelliFlex and BlockBuster. All the sites, today, claim free shipping, unlimited number of online movie rentals in a month, a large collection of the latest movies and no time limit for keeping the movies.

However, these newcomers provide video game rentals whereas NetFlix only specializes in online movie rentals. Additionally, IntelliFlex provides an array of adult online movie rentals attracting those who have a penchant for adult entertainment also.

To fight the 4500 retail stores that BlockBuster has, which it uses for promoting and advertising its online movie rental services, NetFlix has now tied up with Wal-Mart. The veteran is now using Wal-Mart’s brick and mortar presence to augment their efforts for the online movie rental services. In spite of the large presence on the ground, BlockBuster is now likely to find that contending with the innovator is not likely to be cakewalk. They give away two printable coupons per month for in-store game or movie rentals and also design discount schemes and privileged deals.

To combat the leader in the online movie rental industry, BlockBuster offered a rate approximately 3USD cheaper than NetFlix when they launched their service. However, over time they have increased the rates to match those of NetFlix. IntelliFlex still operates at a dollar lower than the other two.

The opportunity to be able to see a large number of the latest movies at rock bottom prices seems like a dream come true. But this dream lasts only for a temporary period for the online movie rental subscriber since the companies realize that sending so many movies in a month would not be profitable for them. The heavy users of NetFlix seem to have realized that they were being throttled. The movies that they asked for were not being sent to them on time. The online movie rental site claimed that they had not received their movies back and so could not send the next lot of three. This seems to be occurring mostly with heavy users of the service since they probably rent more movies in a month than what the site has budgeted per subscription. At the same time the online movie rental sites are not in a position to state that they will restrict the number of movies rented since competition is tough and ‘unlimited’ sounds so much better than a constricting number. Loyal consumers of NetFlix are feeling cheated and blogging heavily on this topic.

Pro -BlockBuster customers claim that this site has been extra kind to their customers and have asked the US postal department to scan the mailers to indicate to them which movies have been sent back. This saves the shipping back time and the next lot of movies or games can be sent as soon as the previous batch of movies has been put in the post.

It remains to be observed as to how long this will last and when BlockBuster realizes that unlimited online movie rentals in a month will only give them a red bottom line. Whether they resort to unethical and surreptitious practices like the pioneers of online movie rentals or are candid and courageous enough to state it upfront is a matter of speculation.

Strange Alarm Tools

Weird iPod accessories may just cut it as the general tech populace’s idea of a technological display of strange yet amusing concepts, but not even a fourth of these tech savvy people even entertained the idea of strange alarm tools. There’s this iPod accessory which is intended to house iPods whenever you’re doing number 1 or 2, and it can allow an iPod to sit comfortably while you don’t. This iPod accessory was designed to look like a toilet paper dispenser, and it can even be placed right on that spot where most people reach out whenever they finish up with a successful bout against the 2nd call of nature. Yes, it’s aptly known as the iLounge Toilet Paper Dispenser.

There are iPod accessories shaped as chairs, beds, wallets, and there’s even this one where a mechanical DJ is powered up by electrical circuitry which it makes it groove to the music blaring from your iPod. But when you ask a tech savvy friend of yours about his ideas of strange yet interesting alarm tools, you get a blank stare which may actually be a gesture of his utter disbelief of what seems to be stupidity reigning on that portion of your brain which is known to control your cognitive abilities.

But what he doesn’t know is that there are strange manmade alarm tools existing in this universe of ours. First off, there’s this thing called the Sfera Alarm. This strangealarm
device comes bundled with a radio and a light bulb. It hangs a good distance from your head. It perpetually increases its distance from you whenever you fail to switch the thing off, and you’ll end up standing on top of your bed just to get rid of the blaring sound it produces just to wake you up. Call it obnoxiously brilliant, but it’s an actual display of functional ingenuity.

Then, there’s this intuitive wristwatch which aims to wake you up during the exact time your mental and physical systems are alert and ready to actually start a brand new day. There’s this piece of modern artistry called Sleeptracker which is integrated on thewristwatch and it functionally monitors your physical and mental state during the time which you have set your natural systems to wake up.

Finally, there’s this strange alarm device called the Blowfly. It flies around the room at the time you have set off the alarm, and it simulates mosquito buzzing sounds of different degrees, and logically, you just have to catch it first before you could turn it off. There are other strange alarm tools out in the market, but these three are just amongst the most amusing and innovative ones out there.

How To Learn Guitar: How To Learn To Play The Guitar In 4 Different Ways

Learning to play the guitar can be a daunting task. Thankfully, there are several different ways you can master the “axe”. Which way is best for you? Here are the major learning methods available:

Traditional Lessons

This is how a lot of people learn to play the guitar, and for good reason. There are many benefits to getting personal lessons:

You get hands-on advice, and corrections on every detail as you learn If you have any specific questions, your teacher can help you out immediately Your lessons are customized to your learning curve

However, there are a few minuses to learning from personal lessons:

- This is the most expensive way - each lesson costs on average $20 or more per lesson, and at one lesson per week this can add up fast- Lessons have to be scheduled, so this is a commitment with both time and money

Personal lessons are still considered to often be the best way to learn, since each lesson is personally customized to each student.

Instructional Books/Videos

Books and videos can be an effective tool for learning. The perks?

These can be specific to certain types of guitar styles, or even specific techniques This is one of the cheapest ways to learn, with books and videos anywhere from $5 and up

What are the downsides to these methods of learning?

- Again, these can be specific to certain styles or techniques, which means learning the guitar fully will usually require multiple purchases- Any questions you may have are not able to be answered by books or videos

Books and videos can be very effective to learn from, but they are fine-tuned to learning specific guitar skills or geared towards a very limited experience range.

Learning Online

The Internet is a huge wealth of knowledge, and can often contain good information:

Some of the information is free, although it can be hard to find The Internet is international, so if there are no books, videos, or instructors available in your part of the world, you can still learn if you can get online There are some online guitar lesson packages that offer full instruction for a decent price - in some cases these can include written lessons, computer programs, video and audio files, or even all of these combined

So what’s bad about learning online?

- Similarly to books and videos, a lot of the free lessons are specific to people of a certain experience level, so finding lessons best for you can be a chore- Spending money on a product that doesn’t work to help you learn can be a major disappointment - do your research before purchasing

Learning guitar online can be a good way to learn. The catch is finding quality instruction from the huge mass of information available about learning to play guitar.

Play By Ear

This last method is the cheapest by far, but also the hardest. The perks?

It’s free! Making your own mistakes and correcting them can often lead to learning more effectively, even if you don’t learn exactly how other people have (just look at Jimi Hendrix) This will definitely lead to having your own personal style of playing, and possibly unique skills other people don’t have

But it’s not all perfect:

- It’s the hardest way to learn since you have nothing to help guide you along the way except yourself, and it is also the method that takes the longest by far - Learning something wrong and not being corrected right away can be VERY hard to un-learn, and can sometimes cause damage to the guitar or even yourself - Many tips and tricks that would help you learn effectively will be missed

Even though it’s hard, a lot of people do start learning guitar this way. It can be done, but just be cautious about making mistakes.

Conclusion

The method you use to learn guitar is ultimately up to you. Figure out which method works best for you and what you can afford. Anybody can learn guitar, it just takes time, effort, and some determination.
