Music in Our Lives

We woke up one day and we were in this world. Innocent to everything around us, we search to classify the things that are inevitably part of our lives. With the books, the internet and all of the other resources that can help us in our every query, we seek to define music. But music’s definition requires a whole book to be fulfilled. It is a long ever-present aspect in human life. To give a least definition of it, it is an artistic and crafty organization of sounds to produce an aesthetic and artistic statement. It is also a form of communication where sounds and ideas are arranged to convey a thought or emotion in a pleasant or discreet manner and still subject to different interpretations.

In Greeks, music is a way of getting the soul in synchronization with the universal harmony and becoming one with the spirit of the muses. Nowadays, it is still a form of conveying feelings and ideas for the entertainment of the audience. Many contemporary artists have their own style; some acoustic, some fiery while some showcase their powerhouse vocals. However, it proves that musicians who share their feelings in the most transparent manner appeals most to the people and therefore claim more enthusiasts. Music is not about the tune and the lyrics alone, it’s also about the emotions behind it all.

But music to our ears does not need an overt explanation to what it is or where it began. A single tune may be subject to a number of interpretations and emotions to which every individual can dig deep in their personas. Every culture has its own music and an attitude towards it. Those people who spend time chatting in coffee shops would gladly listen to a more classical piece. Punk-rock music is probably adored by a group of skater kids. And as for others, they go into what’s new and hip in town.

It’s a reality! Music is part of our lives. And it is only up to us to discover the music in every circumstance. It may be the soft breeze of the night, the sound of the busy street or the swift rhythm while we press the keys of our keyboards. Thus, it is to our pronouncement that the beats of our normal lives be translated to the music to touch the hearts and souls of others.

Simple Approach to Online Roulette

There are several beatable online casino games. Roulette is not one of them. In fact, all of the online casinos and sportsbooks need to get it together on their Roulette games, because there isn’t one good game out there.

It’s sad that this needs to be publicly brought to the attention of the gaming industry, but since most players don’t pick up the phone and call their casinos to complain, somebody had to get on the ball with a truthful tell-all. If you play, you will not win, if you do, count yourself lucky, and take your money and run to another game.

Understand that the game of Roulette has always been a house game. Traditional casinos can realize an advantage of 5.27% to percentages (over 7%) that you do not want to hear!

Online casinos clearly have a much larger advantage. Frankly, it’s the only game in the entire bank of online games that is simply unbeatable. Don’t play it unless you feel the need to really throw your money away.

For every game of skill, you stand a chance in the virtual scheme of things, and for every game of chance, you can demonstrate money management skills to keep your head above water, but not Roulette.

Roulette is a game that is easy to understand and even easier to play, there are a variety of bets to make, as in Craps, but the game is not as difficult as Craps.

Once you place your bets, the dealer drops the ball in the continuous spinning wheel, then the dealer will call out the specific number and color of where the ball lands. It’s easy.

Here’s how it works right now in online casinos: You cash in for $50.00. You play 5 minutes and don’t win the first bet and then you do it again and you still don’t win a single bet.

This will continue as long as you want to make the donations , it’s the only game that optimism won’t change the outcome until the folks overseas decide to give up some of their Roulette profits.

Until then, the simple approach to Roulette online is… don’t play.

Winning Baseball Picks - It’s About Value

When making baseball picks, inexperienced handicappers generally focus most of their attention on starting pitching. After all, in no sport does one man have as much impact on the odds than does baseball’s starting pitcher. The man on the mound can cause a swing in the odds of sometimes as much as a hundred points. But just how much of an impact does he really have on a game‘s outcome?

The most commonly used pitching stat is of course ERA (earned run average). When it comes to ERA, low means good, high means bad. Roy Halladay boasted an ERA of 3.19 in 2006, more than a full run better than averaging a quality start, which is an ERA of 4.50. He was solid, reliable, and above all, damn good. As you would expect, Mr. Halladay was often the favorite. In fact, only one time were you able to get him at plus money. In 14 of his 32 starts he was a favorite of more than -200. In those starts, the Blue Jays were 10-4, an outstanding team win percentage of 71%. However, they barely broke even in those starts for those bettors who backed them, generating a profit of just .19 of a unit. A different outcome in just one of those games would mean a loss overall.

C.C. Sabathia was also one of 2006’s more dominant pitchers with an ERA of just 3.22, .03 worse than Halladay. Unlike Roy, who at least did a little better than breaking even for his backers, C.C. lost over four units. In his 28 starts, the Indians were only a .500 team (14-14).

One of the more profitable pitchers in 2006 was, of all people, Steve Trachsel. His crappy 5.22 ERA generated a profit of over eight units. Contrast that with the semi-retired and not quite crotchety old fart Roger Clemens. In his 19 starts he had a miniscule ERA of 2.30. Of the dozens of pitchers in 2006 who started more than ten games, only one was better than Roger and that was Francisco Liriano. But Roger was a big loser in terms of money (-4.9 units).

True, there are some pitchers who sport flashy ERAs and make money. In 2006 Johan Santana was one, but the point of this article is to show that the effect a starting pitcher has on a game is not as significant as most people would think. Certainly not as much as the sports books think.

Precision Plays estimates the impact of a starting pitcher on a baseball picks outcome at around 50%, where sports books use the starting pitcher to determine most if not all of the odds on a game. We don’t fault them for that and do not feel they are mistaken in their approach. Because the betting public puts so much emphasis on starting pitching, the books have to as well.

This discrepancy, the difference between how important the starting pitcher really is and how important the sports books say he is, represents the single most important element in making a decision on any baseball pick. Baseball has the most developed and complicated system of statistics of any sport on the planet, and you can take all of them a toss them out the window because they mean very little when it comes to winning money betting baseball. There is only one thing you need to determine and one thing only when making a baseball pick, and that’s value.

Pet Portraits

Gathering dust in the closet is a shoe box of pictures. Among them are snapshots of your beloved pets. Unfortunately, the pictures of Skippy are all too far away for us to enlarge for placing on the wall, and the snapshot of our cute little kitty cat is an unrecognizable blur with eyes lit up like spotlights. Here are some tips to help you create a beautiful close up portrait of your pet.

First you need a decent backg5round. Procure a panel of thin plywood sized about three by five feet. Mix the following colors using tubes of color with flat ceiling paint: one cup of alarizon crimson, one cup of beige, one cup of gray-brown, and one cup of apple green. Paint the whole panel with the gray /brown, then blend in the other colors with a large brush, stroking in a diagonal direction. Keep the center portion light. Blend the paint while still wet, but don’t blend too much or you will hide the different colors.

Use a camera which features a telephoto lens or zoom in the 135mm range which will focus at four feet. Use a medium fast ISO setting (200). Locate a spot lit by strong window light for a source or bounce your flash off a silver 36 inch reflector. If you have to use the built in flash, use a mirror or a piece of foil to angle the light to the side or upwards. Place your pet on a box large enough for your pet to be comfortable. Cover the box with a dark, plain material like velvet, satin or damask. For large dogs, it may be better to work on the floor but be sure to lower the camera to the same height. Black dogs are difficult to capture. Try using a flash off camera with a window or other light behind your pet and to one side just out of range of the lens.

Take a few full length shots and then crop just below the neck for a good close up image. Keep your pet’s eyes slightly to the left or right and a little above the camera lens. On long nosed dogs, make sure you can see both eyes. Make a variety of little noises to keep the ears forward. It is a good idea to have ready several squeaky toys because your dog or cat will only perk up their ears once for each different noise. For small dogs or cats, have a wicker basket ready for them to peek out of. Feel free to make a dozen exposures in order to insure capturing a prize winning expression. Save your background for the next time your pet is photographed. Your final pet masterpiece will be treasured just as your pet is a treasured part of your family.

La Femme Nikita (Season 3) DVD Review

Nominated for 18 Gemini Awards (which honor the English language achievements of Canadian television), La Femme Nikita established itself as a stalwart on the USA Network in the late-1990s. Based on the 1990 motion picture of the same name, La Femme Nikita changed its cast, but not its edgy characters and exciting underworld setting. A forerunner to the successful hit series Alias, the show features all the intrigue of its successor coupled with the fast-paced action of 24. An hour-long action/adventure drama series, La Femme Nikita premiered on the first day of 1997 and quickly built a loyal fan base that followed the series for five stellar seasons before its premature cancellation in Spring 2001…

La Femme Nikita follows the life of Nikita (Peta Wilson), a woman wrongfully convicted of a brutal murder. Sentenced to life in prison, a top-secret government agency known only as Section One sets its sights on the woman it believes to be a ruthless killer. Faking Nikita’s suicide, they usher her out of prison to train and program her into a willing and obedient assassin. But the conspirators at Section One didn’t bank on Nikita’s innocence. Now, they’re stuck with a bloodthirsty felon who’s not as bloodthirsty as they thought. Nevertheless, Nikita (now code-named ‘Josephine’) must carry out the orders of her superiors or else face her own death at the hands of an organization intent on keeping its secrets from the outside world. La Femme Nikita boasts an excellent cast to compliment Nikita’s numerous adventures, among them are Michael Samuelle (Roy Dupuis), Davenport (Lawrence Bayne), Seymour Birkoff (Matthew Ferguson), Walter (Don Francks), and Paul “Operations” Wolfe (Eugene Robert Glazer). Together, they create an intriguing atmosphere of mysterious identities, ruthless assassins, and government conspiracies that is certain to entertain even the most discriminating of viewers…

The La Femme Nikita (Season 3) DVD features a number of exciting episodes including the season premiere “Looking For Michael” in which Operations deems Nikita to be a threat to the continued life of Section One. So a plot is hatched to assassinate Nikita on one of the Section One missions, but Nikita survives, and when she returns to Section One headquarters, she learns the truth about Michael… Other notable episodes from Season 3 include “Outside the Box” in which Section One recruits a new operative with a photographic memory, and “Third Party Ripoff” in which Michael’s relationship with Nikita threatens to cause his loss of hard-earned power within the Section One hierarchy…

Asha of Darfur [A poem with a commentary by the author]

Asha of Darfur

Cry, cry—oh little Darfur woman
For your sister Janjaweed—
[in Sudan’s merciless region—

who was raped to death);
Where rape and death run ramped;

And Asha prays the Arabs don’t’ hear
Here sobbing little black tears…
…in fear she will be chained to a bed

In Darfur, by the insidious justice
Of the Arabs, who run ramped?

Ah, yes! In Darfur you’ve guessed,
It is not a crime to raped and arrested;
By the very one who raped, and terrorized

You; it is the conquest…Satan’s ribs!...
Where rape and death run ramped.

#733/6/19/05

Commentary by the author: again we see a political poem, or one taken out of current events. As I read the paper a few days ago, I saw the tears of Asha, and the double standards in this African location, as it plays on the black citizens. It is a shame. There is not much symbolism in this poem, it is not needed. A few lines tell the whole story; as it does throughout the whole poem. In this poem there is nothing for the reader to discover I fear no metaphors, just death, and its current events taking place in this Genocide of rape in Darfur. My symbol if anything, is not private, it is public. Where in many cases a skull stands for death, here rape stands for death. Perhaps I’ve created in this poem my own private symbol of that nature, for many have survived the rapes and the genocide [or killings]; I connect them together to mean the same thing though. For once we have been violated so badly, we die slowly anyhow, or so I feel.

Helping Your Piano Student Save Time by Getting Organized

Help your child in piano lessons learn to be organized and they will learn a whole lot more. If your child can’t seem to get from A to B without wandering through everything else in the alphabet first, they’re going to have difficulty accomplishing their goals. I’m not trying to say that all learning is linear, that would be false and simplistic. Achieving our dreams, however, demands specific attention to the goals that will bring them to life. Otherwise we might as well be rubbing a lamp and waiting for a genie to appear and grant our three wishes. You child would have better luck winning the lottery! so don’t put off helping your child learn how to go about managing their time.

The first step in getting your child organized is to explain that their is a difference between a dream and a wish. A dream is something that we plan and work toward until we accomplish it in the future. A wish is a fantasy that doesn’t happen in real life. Sure it’s fun to imagine a wish when we blow out the candles on our birthday cake. but no matter how many birthday candles we blow out, simply wishing won’t make our dreams come true. There is no genie to grant our wishes, but we do have the power to bring our dreams to life by being good stewards of our time and talent.

Reading stories to your child about how musicians and other people in history have achieved their dreams is a great way to help your child explore their own potential. You can also encourage your child to interview members of your community who have developed musical skill or particular expertise in another area to find out how they went about accumulating the knowledge and skills necessary to reach their goals.

Then help your child set piano goals and determine what good habits they will need to achieve these goals. Good habits are the key to staying organized. Keeping a piano journal is the best way for your child to stay organized toward achieving their piano dreams. Get your child a piano journal and help them write down their goals for the year, their goals for each month, and their goals for this week. For each specific goal help your child identify corresponding good habits that will help them best accomplish them. As your child achieves their goals light a candle for them to blow out! Tell them to think of their piano dreams while they are blowing it out and how it is coming to life.

Children will waste more time when they don’t know what they are trying to accomplish. The best way for your child in piano lessons to stay organized and use their time wisely is by having a great plan to guide them that they have worked on and invested themselves in.

Review Of The Best Sites That Offer Custom Tattoo Designs Online

This article concerns my research into custom tattoo designs online. I have been thinking about getting more ink, as it were, and I have a specific need (as I assume anyone that is looking for a tattoo may have.) I am trying to conform to a theme of Tibetan style art for my tattoos. I got my first four tattoos a few years ago in another part of the country and the artist was and still is wonderful. Unfortunately, he is about as far away from me as you can get and still be in the same country, since I have moved to Hawaii and he is on the East coast. So what can I do? Look online for art and artists to help create a new custom design by myself.

I started looking around for custom tattoo designs online . Many of them turned out to be worthless, in my opinion because they offered standard flash that you can get anywhere, and not even well-done flash at that, but I found a few sites that caught my eye. Below I discuss five sites that I think out-ranked all the others, so I am sharing my thoughts in case you want to check them out and create of find a great design you will cherish forever (after all, these things are going to be on your body for the rest of your days! You need to get them done well and be proud of them!) You can visit the sites through my personal blog listed in my signature, if you want to check the pages out for yourself.

1. Chopper Tattoos

One of the bigger sties may actually be the best. It is called Chopper Tattoos and they certainly seem to have the biggest and most kick ass selection of flash. As with most of these sites, you cannot get to the artwork without becoming a member. That is understandable seeing as they are selling you their designs. What this site does (as do a few of the others I will talk about) is they show some examples on the front page of the site so you can get an idea of what to expect as far as quality. Also they give a full list of the general categories of art they handle, which is quite extensive. I definitely give them a thumbs up! Heck, they even have free music downloads on the site to add to the value of their services! Nice!

2. Tattoo Me Now

Close to Chopper Tattoos in value is Tattoo Me Now. This site seems to have the best instructional material for making sure you get the artwork you want. I HIGHLY recommend this site for those getting their first ink job!!! They have loads and loads of designs and a great series of instructions on super important things like picking your artist, placing your tattoo, et cetera. Not much art on the front page, but the quality of the art on the inside is ace! The amount of information you get on the front page will give you an idea of the seriousness of the artists involved. I definitely recommend this page, especially for the walking blank canvases out there ready to take the tattoo plunge!

3. Custom Chinese Tattoo Design

The next site is a specialized site called Custom Chinese Tattoo Design. They are just that. I went here looking for Tibetan art, but it seems they don’t have much of anything but Han related art, focusing on Hanzi or Chinese language characters. It also appears that they prefer traditional characters to simplified ones, leaning towards calligraphic designs, but they are open to other forms of characters, too. The site is great for those wishing to get a Chinese character oriented design or something Han Chinese related that may have a character involved. The site features wonderful work and loads of pictures on the front page to show the quality of the work. Absolutely great site for those looking to get a design of this nature!

4. Find Your Tattoo

The next site is a great site for basic design work. It is the Find Your Tattoo site. The page is a little hard to find, so follow the link below to go straight to it. There is no artwork on the front page, but there is a video of the art and the package that you get. It is a download of images to plough through and that is about all, but it does have great standard flash work and it is cheap – less the ten dollars. The site holds great value for what you get if you are in the market for something basic or standard, but still high quality. I recommend checking out the video on the front page and see if it is right for you.

5. Tattoo My Brain

The last one for today is Tattoo My Brain. This site also seems quite concerned with making sure the custom is pleased with their choices. It is somewhat directed to first-time customers, but it definitely holds many designs for the person looking to get something special. They encourage taking the designs on their site and using them to inspire original, custom work. Like Tattoo Me Now, they also give lots of instruction of selecting artists, parlors, and other important health and satisfaction tips. I would definitely check them out if you are wanting to get ideas for an original work and want more insight into the whole process of getting inked!

Again, if you want to track them down easily or see what else I have to say about them, there are links to these sites on my personal web log page listed in my signature below. Please feel free to visit the page and read my other online product reviews.

Quentin Yu

The Old Sheepherder (Cajas, Peru Mantaro Valley In English and Spanish)

He roams the hillside, the old man—
Thin and bowed—arched like a tower
Donkey by his side:
Goats and sheep, leaping up the side of the hill
By the Old Inca Wall;

He roams the hillside, the old man—
Stops to talk to me
(It’s a way of life you see
In the Mantaro Valley).

Not sure if he likes strangers—
But he smiles nonetheless.
(His wool sweater tight against his thin chest.)
He looks up, up into the atmosphere, says
(As if measuring the slow moving air) says:
“Rain, it will rain late this afternoon!”
And right he is.

(It’s a way of life here you see))
In the Mantaro Valley; that’s all it is;
Roaming the hillside, donkey’s and all,
A few strangers, now and then,
And a tight sweater between
Him and the cool air.))

#1568 (12/13/2006)

Note: The old sheepheders, the ones that are left in the Mantaro Valley of Peru, bring their own food and water usually with them as they go daily up the hillsides with their sheep, and other animals (in this case, Cajas, a city of less than 10,000-inhabidents). I kind of think their days are fading; modernization is filling up their bellies nowadays (in the Valley, and nearby towns, such as Huancayo); I feel fortunate to be able to be one of the witnesses (perhaps one of the last, and one of the few who is writing this period down) to an end of an era; or, this old way of life that is, simple as it is, nonetheless, its nature will be buried with me I since.

Por la Vieja Pared Inca;

(En el Valle del Mantaro; esto es todo lo que es;
Rondando por la ladera, asnos y todo,
Unos forasteros, de vez en cuando,
Y un suéter apretado entre
Él y la modernización.))

# 1568 (13/Diciembre/2006)
